Purpose

There is a better Greater Detroit our children deserve.

A lot of times, when we speak of Detroit, we too often speak of scarcity rather than abundance. But we know better.

We know the work of The Better Detroit Youth Movement, a 15-year-young, non-profit coalition driven by volunteers — incredible individuals and great groups — working together to improve the quality of life and learning for and with our children, teens and young adults.

Live in Peace art parties at Wayne State, job fairs at Bert’s Warehouse, scholarship fairs at Cobo, The Million Father March, discussion forums, teen and young adult mentoring, community clean ups, youth resource summits, and partnering on healthy youth resource fairs and Wayne County Court teen intervention programs are just some of our works you may know.

There is great power in collaboration that makes us all better.  That’s why we have worked and continue to work with many community and youth groups to support their success in supporting our children and families.

Greater Detroit has a wide world of resources for children, teens and young adults. That’s why we created a regional youth resource map with more than 325 positive, powerful people here to help them believe, achieve and succeed.  And we know there are a lot more resources out here!

Most children want a way to better themselves, their communities and our future. That’s why we started The Better Detroit Brownie Company where great kids, great brownies and great causes get together for our Greater Detroit.

This thriving “for youth / by youth” social enterprise supports many youth and community causes, shows our children how to profit in progress, and inspires others to be involved in helping more children succeed in school and thrive in life.

Better Detroit Brownies are available all over Greater Detroit including Meijer Rivertown Market, Grant’s Pizza House in Rochester Hills, Dave & Amy’s in Walled Lake, Flavors of Jamaica in Pontiac, and Redwood Grill in Waterford.

Now our call to action is simple as complex:  how do we better satisfy and engage consumers to better enrich and support children? Many of us have something of value – be it time, talent or treasure –to invest in our brighter futures.

We work with a vision, passion, commitment and mission knowing our kids need a better today more than ever before. If you’d like to better know about our efforts, and help us make and bake a Greater Detroit you, our children and we all deserve, call 313.597.7888 today.
